Vinyl Graphic Audi R8 Advert

  • PPM Audi R8 stock car project

Vinyl Graphic for Audi TV commercial As a new year gets underway, the team here at Project Print Management are taking a few moments to reflect on our past achievements and successes. Back when we were working with Pyramid Visuals, we worked with a lot of notable clientele and had some amazing experiences.

We always think fondly of our 2010 experience working with the prestigious advertising agency BBH London. They contacted us and asked us to provide so car wrapping vinyl wraps and custom graphics for a new Audi R8 television advertisement, as they were impressed by other television work we had done (such as wrapping the Millennium Building for the Channel 5’s Gadget Show).

This original concept was created by Kevin Stark and Nick Kidney for BBH London, and was directed by Sam Brown from Rogue Productions. BBH’s concept and storyline? A ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme, depicting Audi’s brand new R8 Spyder as the beauty surrounded by ‘beasts’ – some of the most marvellously beaten up old Hot Rods and stock cars in the world. Production company Rogue Films sourced the 22 cars from all over the USA and UK, and these hulking wrecks looked the part!
After some nasty shipping delays, the Hot Rods arrived at the Pyramid Visuals warehouse in Surrey, and our team’s transformation began. In an intense race against the clock, our team of vinyl graphic wrap engineers worked for five solid days in order to get the cars ready for the shoot.

We really went all out on this project – we carefully applied unique and striking vinyl wrap designs that had been digitally printed on HP9000 solvent printers to each car, using Avery materials. As the pressure mounted, the Rogue TV crew came to film the preparations and capture our team’s progress as they worked their magic, giving each car a unique personality. You can watch a ‘making of the commercial’ documentary that perfectly captures our intensity and dedication to get the job done perfectly – and on time

On the day of the shoot everything was ready to go, and the 4-day filming schedule began. As we shot at the Excel Centre in London, the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ story really took shape. It involved all the noise and the attitude of these tricked out Hot Rods, each one with its own distinctive design (such as a skull and crossbones, and a crazy mouth packed with massive sharp teeth) driving furiously and missing each other by inches. Naturally, the Audi R8 glides through the carnage and escapes unscathed, the perfect hero.

Vinyl Graphic with a difference

Justin Murray, PPM commented.

Working on this type of project is a lot of fun, and it’s exactly what we’re all about here at Project Print Management; we thrive on pulling together as a team to getting the job done perfectly. We work on many vinyl wrap projects, so we’re used to turning it around quickly and getting it right first time – and this proved to be key with the quick turnaround needed on the Audi project

A spokesperson for BBH commented

While we felt thrilled to work with BBH, they enjoyed working with us and appreciated our professionalism and dedication. As a spokesperson for BBH commented, “the vehicle decals worked very well for this project. Pyramid Visuals managed to get the graphic designers ideas for the wraps and graphics into a reality, making the cars characters really come out better than our expectations”
